U-Md. Ranks 14 as a Party School

The University of Maryland, College Park, is not a top-10 school, the Princeton Review reports, and administrators, no doubt, are pleased. As a party school, UM comes in at 14.

The annual rankings are contained in the 2008 edition of "The Best 366 Colleges" and are based on a survey of 120,000 college students, mostly during the 2006-07 school year. The students answered survey questions having to do with the use of alcohol and drugs, hours of study each day and popularity of the Greek system.......

Number 1 on this year's dubious list of distinction is West Virginia University, up from number 3 last year. Southern state schools -- Mississippi, Texas, Florida and Georgia -- occupy the next rungs, above Penn State at number 6.

The U.S. Naval Academy is also on a list. It's number 8 among "stone-cold sober schools," despite several highly publicized incidents last year involving midshipmen and alcohol at establishments in downtown Annapolis. Brigham Young University is number 1 on the list. read more washingtonpost.com
